Currently the cosmetic market is driven by some trends such as attention to ingredients of natural origin, the high tolerance of the product, the protection of the environment. Natural bioactive substances tend to be well known and safe, however they are often easily oxidized and therefore unstable and therefore the addition of antioxidant, stabilizing and antimicrobial substances is required in the final cosmetic formulations. The products called SFC are born as a synthesis of different lines of research: the use of encapsulation technology in nanocarriers to improve the stability and effectiveness of natural extracts; the use of natural polymers to improve application and develop a synergistic action with natural extracts; the research of "waterless" cosmetics which led to the development and diffusion of solid cosmetics on the market as an improvement solution to limit the use of preservatives and antimicrobial substances, lighten the packaging and consequently reduce the environmental impact.

The skincare products SCF represent an innovation in the cosmetic field that offers both direct benefits to the consumer and to the environment. The invention is a film of natural polymers containing encapsulated extracts which can be transformed into a gel for rehydration upon application.

The advantage for the consumer is having a skincare product with proven efficacy as it is obtained from ingredients of natural origin well known for their activity, a highly tolerable product due to the absence of synthetic preservatives and antioxidants, a product which it takes up little space, light to transport and with minimal packaging to be disposed of as it is waterless. The products are versatile for the different cosmetic needs of the consumer (antiaging, antiacne, hydration, protective action...) as they can be functionalized with different types of natural extracts.

The advantage for the producer is the use of a limited number of raw materials, which are easily available, and a minimal packaging that consequently significantly reduces transport costs. These aspects represent an advantage for the environment as well.
