Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student acquires the knowledge necessary for the practice of manual lymphatic drainage and is able to perform the basic manual skills through simulated activities.

Course contents

-The lymphatic circulation
-Anatomy of the lymphatic system
-Physiology of the lymphatic system:
-Starling equilibrium
-local and diffuse edema
-Lymphedema pathology: staging, classification, typology of lymphedema, diagnostic means, measurement and complications.
-Effects of Manual Lymphatic Drainage
-Indications and contraindications
-Therapies supplementary to the DLM: physical therapies, therapy, diet,
-Elastocompressive bandaging and packaging of containment sheaths (practical demonstration)

-Practical part which involves the treatment of superficial and deep lymph nodes of:
-Lymphatic chains of the neck;
-chest and back
-lumbar and gluteal area
-Upper limb in the presence or absence of axillary lymph nodes (post-mastectomy)
-Lower limb in the presence or absence of inguinal or pelvic lymph nodes

- Practical exercises for the treatment of various body areas
