78542 - "Professional Laboratory II" (RN)

Academic Year 2023/2024

  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures
  • Campus: Bologna
  • Corso: First cycle degree programme (L) in Imaging and Radiotherapy techniques (cod. 9079)

Learning outcomes

The student acquires autonomy and manual skills through preparatory exercises for the internship.

Course contents

  • The aim is to involve and assist students in technical-practical activities in such a way that they can apply the concepts acquired during the frontal and theoretical lessons, provided by the teacher in the classroom, and then apply them in professional practice.
  • Under the supervision of the teacher in the laboratory, the examination protocols and the necessary procedures used can be used, allowing the student to discover the critical issues that may be encountered in carrying out a CT exam.
  • Students learn the skills necessary for professional practice before moving into the internship, creating a realistic situation and familiarizing themselves with CT equipment.

Teaching methods

The teaching techniques used by the teacher are:

  • The demonstration during which the teacher operationally illustrates to the students the different ways of carrying out a CT survey.
  • The role-play simulation techniques: in which participants are asked to simulate or reproduce through activeexperimentation what the teacher has previously illustrated
  • In-basket simulation techniques: the student is confronted with an operational problem in the CT diagnostic room as it can be presented to an expert TSRM during a working day.

The didactic purpose is to give the student an incisive analysis of the problem by developing decision-making and problem-solving skills.

Assessment methods

The student will be subjected to a practical test in which he will describe and simulate with a logical and practical approach the management of a patient from taking charge to his leave.

For each Brain, Body and Angiographic CT study protocol, the student must know:

  1. The main indications for investigations
  2. The procedures for welcoming and identifying the user from taking charge to leaving
  3. Verification and evaluation of radiological requests
  4. Management and preparation of the patient
  5. Use of contrast media
  6. Appropriate choice of acquisition plans
  7. Appropriate choice of study protocols in based on the patient's clinical question.
  8. Patient positioning procedures.
  9. Scanning methods and parameters: image acquisition, processing and display.
  10. Post processing MPR,MIP,VR
  11. Correctness criteria.
  12. Outline of anatomy CT.

The test will be considered exhaustive if the student has demonstrated mastery of the subject and autonomy in managing the exam and the patient.
