Learning outcomes

At the end of the module the student has developed and compared with critical thinking recognizing the problematic nature, the ethical deontological issues connected to the professional practice and in line with the bioethical guidelines in the field of health care

Prerequisites

knowledge of Evolution and Structure of Nursing Studies Course and the 2019 Code of Conduct for Nursing

Contents

Professional responsibility from the application of the rules to ethical and deontological principles

Contents, methods and tools in nursing responsibility in treating, caring for and assisting the person.

Normative references founding the professional responsibility of the nurse

The deontological codes, with particular reference to the contents of the 2019 Code of Conduct for Nursing Professions and the ICN Code of Conduct: analysis of values and principles and their meaning in clinical practice.

Ethics and bioethics (in particular)

The main approaches to ethics, the ethical principles for making decisions in conflict / ethical dilemma.

The current epistemological debate in bioethics, its influences on life sciences and in particular on the beginning and end of life.

Law 219 of 2017: Informed consent and DAT

Methodology and tools for ethical analysis and decision-making in nursing practice between the position of the professional and the autonomy of the assisted person.

Ethical aspects of research and ethics committees.

The ethics of “care”

Ethical principles for nursing practice: advocacy, competence, cooperation and caring.

The ethical meaning of care.

Aspects of care of ethical significance, aimed at promoting and guaranteeing the protection and safety of the patient, his autonomy and his rights

Teaching methods

individual study on online materials [on Virtuale] and classroom teaching [ lectures, presentation of problems in plenary, individual/pair and group exercises, Analysis of cases on the main ethical dilemmas)


Assessment methods

The purpose of the exam is to verify the student's ability to apply his own knowledge and to make the necessary logical-deductive connections inherent in the topics of the course

Written assessment test with n. 5 opened questions

Each question will be screened individually and will remain visible only for the expected time of 6-8 minutes per question, depending on its length.

The evaluation is out of 30 [evaluation for each question from 0 to 5, a sufficient response requires an evaluation of at least 3 and total grade in proportion out of 30]. Evaluation criteria: correctness of the answer in terms of interpretation, explanation and terms used, mastery of the contents and personal elaboration.

The final mark is expressed out of 30 points according to the following graduation: <18, fail; 18-23, sufficient; 24-27, good; 28-30, very good; 30 with laude, excellent.

The evaluation will be averaged with the evaluations of the other modules making up the Integrated Course
