Learning outcomes

The course will provide knowledge in Basic Life Support and in other Emergency Medicine topics for which laboratory test contribute in a decisive manner to reach the diagnosis and determine a timely and optimal patient management. The student will know the meaning of the different test, the timing by which they have to be reported to allow adequate patient management in the different clinical situations.

  • Anemia
  • Acute liver failure
  • Cirrhosis and acute / terminal complications
  • Diabetic coma
  • Acute abdomen
  • Respiratory failure, pneumonia
  • Deep vein thromobosis and pulmonary embolism
  • Sepsis and multiorgan failure
  • Acute pancreatitis
  • Abormalities of blood electolyties
  • Principles of basic life suppor manouvres
