Learning outcomes

The course aims to present critically the disciplines of welfare in our country, in correlation with the prospects of social Europe, with particular focus on insurance and social security nets as well as the most important complementary pension schemes, so that the student acquires knowledge of the problems also from a financial sustainability point of view.

Course contents

The program of lessons includes the following topics: introduction on basic concepts; constitutional models; development of social security, welfare policies, social measures; the contributory relationship; the main social risks, sickness and work accidents, handicap, unemployment, poverty and social exclusion, ageing, supplementary pension schemes.

Teaching methods

Some lessons are held with the participation of students who will be asked to submit reports. Specialized material will be distributed to attending students also through the appropriate online support platform for teaching.

Assessment methods

The learning assessment takes place with an oral examination on the discussed topics during the course and indicated in the section "Program and contents".

The evaluation will be carried out taking into consideration the knowledge of the issues, the ability to analyze the jurisprudential and doctrinal theses, the ability to make connections between the different parts of the program, the ability to develop critical arguments, the articulation and accuracy of the exposure.

By way of example, the following criteria will be used to assess the final mark (that will be out of 30/30):

  • sufficient or barely sufficient knowledge on the programme, limited reasoning ability, some difficulties in using technical and legal language → 18-21/30;
  • fairly good knowledge of the programme, adequate critical reasoning ability, sound use of technical and legal language → 22-25/30;
  • comprehensive knowledge of the programme, notable reasoning ability, good command of technical and legal language → 26-29/30;
  • extensive knowledge of the programme, very good reasoning ability, and ability to fully master technical-legal language → 30-30L/30.

Attending is recommended and verified periodically by the professor.

The reports submitted by students during the lessons are evaluated.

It is also possible to arrange specific working paper realised by the student.

Lessons will be held in the second semester and students can take the exam in the summer session.

In order to take the exam it is necessary to register with the appropriate list through Almaesami.

Thesis

The thesis will be assigned during an interview with the professor.

Teaching tools

Students who for reasons of disability or specific learning disabilities (DSA) need compensatory tools will communicate to the teacher their needs to agree on the adoption of the most appropriate measures.
