Learning outcomes

Once completed the course, the student knows how to apply the methods for the historical-critical analysis of architecture and the city and he/she knows how to apply them to specific contexts, returning the results of these analyses by identifying the structuring characteristics of the contexts according to the physical, socio-cultural, aesthetic-perceptive connotation, as well as the needs for protection and the potential for enhancement.

  • The postwar reconstruction in Italy
  • The Cervellati plan for Bologna (1969-1973)
  • Spaces of memory
  • The History of Bologna
  • Brief introduction of the Italian urban legislation in Italy: the law on the historical centers preservation

Bibliographic references and study materials will be provided during the lectures and seminars.

Teaching methods

Alongside the ex cathedra lessons and face-to-face/online seminars, the course includes visits in Bologna (compatibly with the possibilities and circumstances) and the carrying out of different exercises.

Assessment methods

The final exam will consist in an oral interview to verify the exercises and acquisition of the topics covered during the lectures and seminar as well as the contents of the bibliographic materials provided.
