Academic Year 2022/2023

  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures
  • Campus: Forli
  • Corso: First cycle degree programme (L) in Intercultural and Linguistic Mediation (cod. 8059)

Learning outcomes

The aim of the course is to strengthen knowledge of the fundamentals of French language and culture. Particular attention is given to the basic problems and strategies of language mediation. The student will improve their skills in both writing and speaking, articulating themselves with relative fluency and spontaneity.

Course contents

The French Language and Culture II course aims to deepen grammar knowledge and acquire the methodological skills needed for writing and speaking.

With this in mind, the course involves the study of the French language in continuity with the Year I course, through the in-depth study of additional grammatical and lexical aspects.

Grammatical, lexical and syntactic knowledge will be strengthened through the analysis of authentic written and oral documents on topics concerning French and French-speaking culture and society. Concurrently, intercultural knowledge especially related to the social, artistic and literary spheres will be broadened.

Emphasis will be placed on the four language skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing, through a communicative and action-oriented approach.

The course is complemented by 20 hours of French language lessons held by a mother-tongue teacher with 70 % compulsory attendance.

Lessons include the use of audio-visual material and Internet navigation.

Students are expected to work independently, individually and continuously in order to acquire the grammatical skills of the course programme.

Assessment methods

The final examination of the French language and culture Module includes

- a written test: grammatical, lexical aspects and a short writing task.

- an oral test: poursuite exercise; presentation of a film work based on a sheet prepared by the student.

The methodology related to the poursuite exercise and the drafting of the film sheet will be explained and illustrated in depth in the classroom.

You must have passed the written test with a mark of 18/30 to be eligible for the oral test. The use of aids such as dictionaries or grammar books is not permitted during the written test.

30-30 cum laude: excellent results demonstrating a complete acquisition of the language subjects (on a morphological, syntactic, lexical, stylistic and cohesion/coherence level) and of the cultural subjects proposed in the course.

27-29: above average results, with minor errors compensated by a more than adequate demonstration of the required knowledge and language skills.

24-26: valid results, but with some obvious errors indicating a partial acquisition of the required knowledge and skills.

21-23: sufficient results but with noticeable shortcomings in the knowledge and skills to be acquired.

18-20: results that barely meet the basic criteria for the knowledge and skills to be acquired.

Insufficient: basic knowledge was not achieved, the examination should be repeated.
