Learning outcomes

By the end of the laboratory the student: knows how to analyze and deal with different applications of the languages of contemporary art, in its specific field and interdisciplinary relations; knows how to recognize the role played by visual studies in the overall development of artistic research and their contribution to the processes of the cultural industry.

Course contents

With historical-theoretical reference to the themes discussed in Phenomenology of Contemporary Art. Institutions, the workshop will focus on Michelangelo Antonioni's film Blow Up (1966). Through the analysis of the film and the comparison with the materials proposed in the book Io sono il fotografo. Blow up e la fotografia, the following themes will be studied and discussed: the different identities of photography, its conceptual components, the interpretation of the photographic image, the role of the photographer.

At the end of the course, students will have to realize a project through images that interprets or develops one of the aspects discussed during the workshop. Non-attending students will equally have to realize a project through images inspired by the themes proposed by the film and the book.

Assessment methods

The project will be produced as a PowerPoint with 15 (minimum) to 30 (maximum) slides. The images can be original (produced by the student) or taken from any other source. They can be manipulated or not, without any technical limitation. It is possible to insert text on the images or between them, respecting the total number of slides. It is also possible to include a musical score. In the initial slide (not included in the overall count) the project must have a title.
