Students will get in touch with automatic and integrated production systems, CD-CAM softwares, CNC machines and programming, robots and manupulators.

Introduction to the automation of industrial processes:

  • Basic elements of an automated system.
  • Levels of automation.

Industrial control systems:

  • Continuous control.
  • Discrete control.
  • Computer Control.

Hardware components of an automated system:

  • Sensors.
  • Actuators.
  • D/A and A/D conversion.
  • I/O systems.

Computer Numeric Control:

  • Fundamentals of CNC technology.
  • The CNC in machine tools.
  • EIA / ISO language.
  • The part program.
  • Main types of CNC programming instructions.
  • Fixed cycles.

Industrial Robotics:

  • Main types of industrial robots.
  • Reference systems in industrial robots.
  • The programming of robots.
  • Problems of accuracy and repeatability.
  • Applications of robots in industrial production.

Integration of robots in an industrial system:

  • Robot for manipulation and pick and place.
  • Robot as a handling system for industrial processes.
  • Integration of machine, robot and process monitoring systems.
  • Main types of signals exchanged in an automatic production system (digital, analog, fieldbus).

Advanced programming of automatic systems:

  • CAD-CAM systems.
  • Offline programming systems of robotic systems.
  • Laboratory exercises with advanced programming software.

Teaching methods

The course includes:

  • Classroom heoretical lectures.
  • Laboratory exercises on anrobotic cell for laser processing
  • Computer CAD-CAM programming exercises

Assessment methods

The assessment of learning includes a written test in which candidates will be asked to carry out programming exercises in the languages covered by the course, numerical exercises for sizing and checking the parts of an integrated system, open theory questions and cross-type questions. Students must register for the exam through the Almaesami platform within the deadlines defined for each session.
