Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student has acquired a general knowledge of the main theoretical accounts of Psychology, of the most important cognitive processes, of the main experimental methods of cognitive psychology and their applications in the field of ergonomics

Course contents

In the first part of the course the general aspects of cognitive psychology will be addressed with the aim of providing a historical and thematic overview of the main psychological currents and the most important research methods used in psychology.

In the second part of the course the individual cognitive processes, such as perception, attention, memory, thinking and reasoning, will be addressed in more detail. The aim is to offer a general overview of the topics considered and of the main experimental methods used in the field.

Teaching methods

PowerPoint-assisted lectures (slide-lectures).

Lecture attendance is not compulsory but is strongly recommended.

Assessment methods

The final exam will be a multiple-choice test. The questions will concern the topics studied and their applications. The exam aims at verifying:

1. the knowledge of the course contents

2. the critical evaluation of the topics discussed

3. the ability to compare and contrast the main theoretical frameworks of cognitive psychology

Foreign students who feel more confortable to take the exam in English, are kindly asked to contact the professor in order to arrange a suitable examination procedure.

Teaching tools

Students are encouraged to take part in research activities carried out in the Departmental Labs during the academic year.
