73464 - Graphic Elements T (L-Z)

Academic Year 2021/2022

  • Docente: Erica Preli
  • Credits: 5
  • Language: Italian
  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures
  • Campus: Bologna
  • Corso: First cycle degree programme (L) in Industrial Design (cod. 8182)

Learning outcomes

At the end of the module, the students have the ability to apply the set of techniques and processes learned in the "Elementi di Grafica" module within a real case of communication project, during which the professional design process will be simulated.

Course contents

The Visual Communication Laboratory course is divided into two modules: Elementi Grafici (Prof.ssa Erica Preli) and Comunicazione Grafica (Prof. Emilio Macchia). The two modules provide tools and techniques, on the one hand, and historical / cultural and methodological knowledge, on the other, with the aim of forming integrated skills for the elaboration of a design process and visual communication project.

ELEMENTI DI GRAFICA module (Prof. Erica Preli)

The module aims to form figures capable of managing the realization of a graphic project, independently and in a group, from a technical point of view. The softwares of the Adobe Suite will be presented to students through lessons followed by computer exercises.

1) Graphic design and softwares

2) Vectors and design tools

3) Vector construction of an existing symbol on levels

4) Colors, patterns and brushes

5) The pictures

6) Photography post-production

7) Use of color in PS

8) Page layout

9) Final Project presentation

COMUNICAZIONE GRAFICA module (Prof. Emilio Macchia)

The module aims to provide cultural knowledge and design methodologies with the aim of developing skills in the creation of an effective graphic design consistent with the contents.

Structure

The course, in synergy with the "graphic elements" module, will be divided into hours of theoretical lessons and laboratory hours. In the module, through a series of practical exercises, the design methodology supported by a theoretical cultural path will be developed. During the laboratory, moments of confrontation and sharing of the stages of advancement of the works will alternate with the design. The first part of the course aims to provide students with the tools, outline the contexts and stimulate the gaze through which to make their own design effective, defining together areas of action, characteristics and quality of the project. The second part will be used to define the set of tools suitable for the definition and application of a design method useful for the subsequent phase of realization of a brand identity project. Students will work on the conception of an idea with brainstorming techniques; on research methods; on the development of a concept and a mood-board; on the definition of design guidelines and on the creation of a prototype.
