Course contents

Prof. De Pamphilis (Module 1)

Nowadays, no business can be started without evaluating the costs of liability, especially when the business deals with the well-being and health of the person. In fact, civil liability rules are a useful tool not only to resolve disputes between individuals, but also to share the costs of accidents, which are inevitable in every human activity. In this first year course, in order to provide the student with the necessary skills to analyse problems and to plan activities concerning health and wellness, some fundamental institutions of private law will be illustrated (also through the comparison of legal systems and in the perspective of the harmonization of European law, as well as through a casuistic approach). Civil liability rules as a private law and economic instrument will be the thin line that binds all topics, such as:

  • Private law and its sources
  • Personality rights
  • Natural and Legal persons
  • Principles of contract law
  • Contract termination, invalidity, annulment
  • Tort law and civil liability

During the lessons period, the professor will put at the students' disposal (through the University's online applications) the teaching materials regarding each specific topic, which can be used for the exam preparation also by non-attending students. Moreover - if requested by the student - the teacher will provide further useful material, to better understand or deepen the topics of the course.

Teaching methods

Prof. De Pamphilis (Module 1)

The course is developed through classroom lectures, supported using slides, multimedia content, and teaching materials. Active participation of attending students is encouraged, also through a casuistic approach aimed at analysing practical problems emerging in case law.

Assessment methods

Prof. De Pamphilis (Module 1)

At the end of the lesson period, students can take the final exam, through an interview. Attending students can also agree with the professor to carry out extracurricular activities, such as essays and research on topics or cases, which will be considered for the purposes of the final evaluation.

In any case, for the purposes of evaluation, there will be no discrimination (regarding the program or the evaluation criteria) between attending students and non-attending students.
