Learning outcomes

The course aims to give an accurate knowledge of Greek culture and civilization, in their historical relationship with other ancient Mediterraenean cultures. The students will be able to analyze literary texts in order to point out: the relationship between oral culture and written systems; the social, political, and ritual function of literary communication; the myth and its narrative renditions; the religious thought and the social, economic, and juridical institutions; the making of collective imagination and agreement.

Course contents

According with the complexity of the subject, the contents of the course may change year by year. Anyway, Greek Epics, Tragedy and later mythographic sources are always being considered.
