Learning outcomes


The course has a monographic content and allows students to acquire the essential knowledge in the field of Health and Safety and well-being at workplace, particularly with regard to the prevention perspective and integrated management of risks.

Course contents

Lessons program covers the following topics:

I. General lines of the health and safety regulatory system of protection: 1.European legislation and harmonization principle in the field of health and safety at work.

2. European Framework Directive of 1989 and the sectoral directives

3. Characteristics and evolution of the Italian legal system relating to the protection of health and safety at the workplace

II. The Italian discipline: 1. D. lgs. n. 81/2008 and subsequent amendments .

2. Scope, actors, organizational structures of prevention.

3. Participation of workers and trade union representatives.

4 . Safety in flexible labour relationship.

5. Security in outsourcing processes (contracts and self-employment).

7 . The inspection activities in the field of safety at work.



III. Prevention and precaution :

1. The European principle of precaution and The risks from "unknown technology".

2. The asbestos risk: questions of civil and criminal liability. Analysis of case law concerning liability for workers' exposure to asbestos.

3. New and emerging risks.

Considering the constant evolution of health and safety legislation, it is recommended the direct consultation of d. lgs. n. 81/2008.

Teaching methods

The frontal lessons are supplemented by the Focus Group activity on some jurisprudential cases and by the Le@rning by practice methodology.

Assessment methods

The final exam will be oral.
