Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student has a preparation that allows him to understand the methodological bases of Basic Information Technology, with particular regard to the aspects relating to the computer systems processing architecture and the software necessary for their operation. In particular, the student is able to: • know the different functional architectures of an electronic computer; • know the criteria by which the computing performance of IT systems is assessed; • describe the functional blocks of a computer and be able to associate the corresponding physical devices with them; • describe the methods of numerical representation in binary and decimal systems and the type of data circulating in a computer; • recognize the different methods of data transfer in an electronic computer and the input and output flows generated by the processing; • distinguish the different types and functionalities of the operating systems available for an electronic computer; • describe the various categories of possible processing (primary and service); • know the main network connection architectures of electronic computers and the structure of the Internet; • describe the protocols and data transmission methods and the main software services available on the network; • configure a computer for its connection to a local network and be able to use the main office automation and internetworking software; • use the basic methodologies for securing IT systems.

Teaching methods

Frontal and online lessons on the theoretical part. Presentations of the applications to be known. Free and guided computer exercises.

Assessment methods

There is a written test that will take place with the computer in a single session. The test consists of a test with questions (multiple choice) and possible exercises. The test aims to ascertain the possession of the knowledge and skills acquired. The time for the test is forty minutes.

The written test is evaluated with a mark expressed out of thirty which will average with the mark of applied physics and applied computer science. The student will be awarded only one grade for the integrated course of Physics, Computer Science and Applied computer science by the lecturer.

Teaching tools

Learning control questionnaires.

Collaborative online teaching tools to integrate traditional classroom teaching activities: Moodle platform, forum, chat, web conf .. wiki.

Use of contents (textual and multimedia teaching materials, videos, exercises) available to students enrolled on the e-learning platform.

Online Educational Resources: Sitography.
