Learning outcomes
This course aims at providing students with the ability to analyze univariate and multivariate data about economic and business phenomena. The course educates students in essential statistical-computer skills for the quantitative analysis. In particular, student: has the operational tools for the analysis of case studies in different application areas; - is able to use the most widespread and recently developed statistical software; perform descriptive and exploratory analyzes on business and economic data sets.
Course contents
- Create and handle Stata files and datasets.
- Provide descriptive statistics with tables, statistical univariate and bivariate indexes and graphical representations
- Estimate and interpret linear regression models

Teaching methods
Alterning theory lectures (about 10 hours, as brief review of statistical skills previously aquired in statistics, econometrics or business data analysis courses, this last is already included in the study plan at the first year) and practical lectures in the computer lab (remaining 20 hours).
Assessment methods
The exam, about 90 minutes, takes place in the laboratory. The test considers the analysis of a dataset and the guided processing (by points) of a report including output and comments, with the Stata software. The answers of the exam are requested in written form and are to be delivered to the teacher at the end of the scheduled time, together with a comment on the results obtained (main part of the mark).
