Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student will consolidate the instruments to understand the dynamics of nowadays society and its interconnections with fashion.

Course contents

Module deals with mass media communications subjects, from reflections on current media system to media convergence practices. In particular it will be focused the complex relationship between TV series and fashion.

A theoretical and analytical method will be used to study practical examples (study of the TV series, forms and strategies of digital communication, tools of analysis of web audiences).

In addressing these issues, students will be encouraged to work autonomously on cases worthy of interest. On the basis of the tools acquired, they will be able to analyse specific examples selected during class.

 

  • Week 1 - Introduction to the topics and organization of the course.
  • Week 2 - TV series and Instagram. Introduction to research tools.
  • Weeks 3 and 4 - TV series and audience. Guidelines for the research.
  • Week 5 - Examples of analysis.
  • Week 6 - Conclusions and presentation of group activities.

The program and the contents of the lessons may undergo some changes depending on the number of students attending the course.

Teaching methods

The classroom lectures will be complemented meeting one or more representative scholars.

Audio video materials and examples of social profiles linked to the world of fashion will be used.

Assessment methods

Students attending class will have different assessment methods from non-attending students.

 

Attending Students: lessons to be followed regularly. A maximum of 3 absences are allowed. The teacher will collect the signatures of students at each lesson. Only in exceptional and documented cases can further absences be justified.

 

 

Attending-Students:

 

  • A presentation in class (40%).
  • A written research (individual or in small groups) at the end of the course (10.000 – 12.000 characters, spaces included) (40%).
  • Participation in discussions during the lessons will be highly appreciated (20%).

 

Non-Attending Students:

The final exam is oral. It includes:

  • the evaluation of the bibliography of the exam (50%)
  • a paper of 10.000-12.000 characters, including spaces. The subject must be approved by the teacher at least 3 weeks before the exam date (25%).
  • discussion of the paper (25%).

Teaching tools

During the lessons various kinds of material (films, audio-visual sequences, fashion websites, fashion magazines, etc.) will be used.
