Learning outcomes
The student - knows the basic features (terms, concepts and methods) needed for the study of the structure, functions and textual organization of the Russian language - knows the basic techniques required for information mining, drafting, editing and revising texts - is able to understand, analyze and coherently produce complex written texts (but also oral speeches) belonging to various specialized text types and genres, particularly multimedia ones
Course contents
1. MODERN MEDIA LANGUAGE
The journalism language and the norms of the Russian literary language: the concept of the linguistic and stylistic norms, the journalistic-advertising style along with its relationship with the language of the media.
2. ONGOING PROCESSES IN THE MODERN RUSSIAN LANGUAGE AND THEIR REFLECTION IN MULTIMEDIA TEXTS
Russian language changes in the modern era, linguistic loans in modern Russian and the media language subjectivity.
3. AUTHOR AND RECIPIENT IN THE MODERN MEDIA
Communications key players: "the author - the recipient" in the modern mass media, the linguistic styles, the dialogue as a constructive principle of the multimedia text, the lexical content of the multimedia text.
4. THE RHETORICAL MODE OF MEDIA TEXTS. LINGUISTIC AND CONVERSATIONAL PERSUASION TECHNIQUES
Author's strategy to persuade the recipient in the media textsLogical argument in a multimedia persuasive conversation, Psychological reasoning, argumentative mistakes in the persuasive speech.

Teaching methods
Lessons take place mainly in workshop-like mode, but also in lecture mode.
During the lectures, the basic theoretical elements will be introduced.
The practical exercises will be done either by small groups in the classroom or individually at home.
Assessment methods
During the course, students will submit a paper/essay (authored individually or in collaboration) on a topic of their choice. Students are also required to give an oral presentation based on this paper.
The final examination includes:
a) a written and structured comment on an article;
b) a brief oral synopsis of one of the topics discussed during the course.
The final mark is the average of the two results the student has obtained.

The course will be managed on the IOL content management system of the University. Students are expected to enrol.
