Learning outcomes
At the end of the course the student will know the characteristics of the microorganisms and the main analytical techniques used to recognize their presence in environmental or biological matrices
Course contents
Principles of infectious diseases (endogenous and exogenous infections, routes of transmission and elimination)
Virus: structure, classification and disease pathogenesis.
Bacteria: bacterial cell structure, bacterial reproduction and spore formation, pathogenic action of bacteria, bacterial toxins, bacterial genetics)
Mycetes and protozoa: general characters
The diagnosis of infection: sampling methods and general principles
Main microorganisms transmitted through vector arthropods
Main microorganisms transmitted via the fecal-oral route
Environmental pathogens: Legionella pneumophila.
Nosocomial infections.
