Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student - knows the main theoretical and methodological orientations of social psychology; - is able to distinguish between the concepts of 'personal identity' of 'social identity'; - is able to master concepts such as: 'risk factors and protection', 'resilience', 'global therapeutic environment', 'therapeutic community', 'adolescent deviance'; - knows the concept of 'empowerment' and 'burnout'; - knows the main problems related to the migration process; - knows in depth the main theories of social development; - is able to master the concepts of 'ecological context', 'ecological niche' and 'psychosocial transition'; - knows in depth the main tasks of development in adolescence; - is able to distinguish between the concepts of 'Social aggregate' and 'Group'; - is able to carry out educational projects in the field of prevention and intervention on social problems; - is able to actively participate in the work and supervision team; - will know the main information retrieval tools within their area of intervention; - will be able to carry out bibliographical research in his field of study; - is able to conduct group activities; - is able to critically and periodically carry out self-assessment and self-monitoring activities.

Course contents

The course regards the following areas:

 

  1. Psycho-social aspects of development – early childhood, adolescents, risks and protection.;
  2. Difficulties in growing up, in particular problems linked with immigration, use and abuse of drugs, juvenile delinquency, community centres for under 18's and characteristics that make a care context effective and protective;
  3. Gender differences
  4. Aspects of professional life, in particular the necessary skills to enable empowerment , the risk of burnout  and working in a team.
  5. Outdoor education

Teaching methods

In addition to lectures there will also be some pen and paper activities and group work.

Assessment methods

The exam consists of a written test with three open questions taken from the topics in the textbooks. The exam lasts an hour and a half.
