History, body and power in Michel Foucault

Program for attending students

It is a basic introduction to Michel Foucault's thought: no preliminary notions of French or German contemporary philosophy are required. A selection of the main themes of Foucault's thought will be presented: after a general introduction (4 hours), a detailed commentary of passages from History of Madness (10 hours), from The order of things (6 hours), from Discipline and punish and other later works will be made. All these texts will be found in photocopies in Copyshop Centotrecento, via Centotrecento. Obligatory text: M. Iofrida - D. Assessment methods

The final examination is finalized to verify that didactic focuses have been realized, i. e. the capacity of the student to trace the mean philosophical streamings of French contemporary philosophy ; his knowledge of the basic historical-philosophical notions necessary to a first degree student in this arguments.
