Learning outcomes
The student - knows the strategies, techniques, traditional and state-of-the-art tools and methods used in specialized translation tasks - is able to apply them to the translation of technical and scientific texts from different genres and text types, from Italian into Russian, meeting specific translation briefs and respecting the communicative functions of the source texts - knows the main techniques required for information mining, drafting, editing and revising texts, including the overall quality evaluation of the translated text
Course contents
The course aims at the acquisition of active translation techniques and strategies, as well as the ability to collect documentation on given subjects, to analyse specific language characteristics and develope skills regarding stylistic choices and text editing.
During the course the texts relative to the technical-scientific thematic areas will be examined.

Teaching methods
The course consists of a series of seminars with active student participation. The original texts will be initially presented and discussed in the class, whereas translations will be prepared by the students individually. Corrections and overall reflections will be group assessed in seminars.
70% of course attendance is required in order to be admitted to the exam.
Assessment methods
The final exam consists in a written translation of a text on one of the subjects studied during the course. The text length is 300 words and the time available is 2,5 hours. The exam will be held on computers with internet access.
The final mark for the course in "Specialized Translation" will be calculated as the average of the grades obtained in both the passive and active translation modules.
