Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student gets an appropriate training to scientific research in the field of classical and Hellenistic Greek historiography. He knows the essential lines of ancient historiography. He knows and can use research methods and tools. It is able to communicate verbally using the registers and techniques appropriate to the context. He can Highlight critically different cultures. He could update his knowledge in the field using the tools developed by the scientific community.

3. Outlines of Greek Historiography: authors, texts.

Attendance is strongly recommended.

The courses will start Monday, 24 September 2018, h.9, Aula IV, via Zamboni 38.

Classes will be held Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, h. 9-11 Aula IV, Via Zamboni 38

Students who will not able to follow the course, will contact the teacher for an alternative program. Points 1 and 3 remain unchanged, but for point 2 (texts and sources material) slides and translations will be provided about the topic.

Teaching methods

Lectures. Seminar discussions. Preparation of individual parts of the course by students.

Assessment methods

The student can choose to perform the final examination in two different ways:

1.An ' essay ' on the subject of the course, or on a topic closely related to it.
2. traditional Exam: study of teaching material and texts read during the course, with translation and commentary.
Knowledge of Greek and Latin is highly recommended.

Attendance is strongly recommended.

The grade assigned to the essay will be based on the level of critical analysis based on relevant bibliography, clarity in structuring the paper, language proficiency, and on the student's ability to discuss his/her arguments during the exam.

In the oral exam questions will be aimed at testing the student's ability in exposing with an appropriate language issues rising from the teaching material, as well as his/her skills in making connections between different texts in order to build an argument.

Proper language and the ability to critically speak about the original texts and books' content will lead to a good/excellent final grade

Acceptable language and the ability to resume the books' content and class discussion on the original sources will lead to a sufficient/fair grade.

Insufficient linguistic proficiency and fragmentary knowledge of the books' content and class discussion on the original sources will lead to a failure in passing the exam.
