Learning outcomes

The Course aims to help you to see and to analyse the main social trends of the modern society in the field of the cultural processes and sport communication. So you will be more able to better appreciate the social relevance of the communication for the great sport events and for all the activities in the leisure time. At the end of the Course you will be able:

a. to pick out objects and goals of the sport communication;

b. to know the main sociological theories and methods of social research in sporting communication;

c. to have the main know-hows in order to manage a house organ;

d. to use the main tecniques of social research in order to analyse the tv sport audiences

e. to produce press releases;

f. to promote the image of his own sport society or sport team

g. to relate with sponsors and advertisement offices.

Course contents

The Course of Sociology of Sport and Communication will teach the main concepts and theories useful to analyse the up-to-date changes in sport & exercize, which are leading to the “post”-modern society, and the relevance of the communication in all the field, especially in Mes-mega-sporting events, and in fitness and wellness.

In this Course you can distinguish three parts, the following ones:

1. in its General Part the Course will present the exits of the differentiation process in the modern society, and analyse the reasons of the growing relevance of sport in the free time sphere. The Course will dibate the hypothesis of the emerging social structure, linking stronger three sistems: sport, media, and sponsor, and its consequences on the civilization process.

2. in its Monographic Part this Course will present the main findings of sociological studies and researches in the communication of Mes, such as the Olympics, the Paralympics, and the International Football Cahampionships (2014-2016).

3. the aim of the Seminarial Part of this Course is to promote the students’ cognitive interests in the field of the sport communication, and to show studies and empirical researches in the sociology field, which be useful to satisfy them. In the midst of the hours of practice (12 h.), which will be spent in an Academic well equiped Laboratory, the student will have many stimula and chances, in order to learn as old and new media communicate the sport events today.

Two books are required as the minimum program: the first one is the common book; the second one is chosen by the student, according his academic curriculum (i.e., if you have already or NOT 6 Ects in General Sociology).

Moreover, if you like an enlarged program, you can choise a third book among the ones, listed in C) the Seminarial Part.

Assessment methods

A written exam will be about the topics of 2 books (minimum program) or more books (enlarged program), choised by the student between the above listed books.

The test will be composed by 20 questions (minimum program) or more - 10 questions for each other book (enlarged program).

Questions and answears will be already written in the test, so that the student will have only to choise the answear(s) which he/she will keep as right.

Time: 1' for each topic, maximum 20' for the minimum program, +10' for each choised book of your enlarged program.

You can pass this final exam and you'll gain the 6 Ecf.s, if you'll give 18 right answers in the test for minimum program, and +6 right answers for each chosen book (enlarged program)– for each positive proof in a chosen book, you'll gain 3 points to add at your score.

2 important info.s:

a) in order to be admitted at the exam: You had to be present at minimum to the 70% of the lessons. Presences under this minimum may be integrated by studying a book more than the minimum program (a forth book, choised between the listed ones). No presence at all, or a presence less than 6 hours, don't allow to gain the Uec.s, so that the student cannot be admit to the exam.

b) In order to be registered to the roll-call: You had to insert your name in the electronic list for the exam within the 5th day before the fixed date (you can have access to the e-list in the AlmaEsami website, at the url: https://almaesami.unibo.it/almaesami/welcome.htm ). Erasmus students may request an earlier review by the day of their departure.
