84230 - Principles of tissue engineering (2nd cycle)

Academic Year 2017/2018

  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures
  • Campus: Cesena
  • Corso: Second cycle degree programme (LM) in Biomedical Engineering (cod. 8198)

Learning outcomes

This course summarizes the principles of an integrated tissue  engineering (TE) approach. At the end of the course, the student - knows the general specifications of suitable cells and biomaterials and applicable culture protocols in dedicated devices (bioreactors); - overviewed the analyzes that allow to evaluate the in vitro maturation of the culture construct; - is aware of the regulatory framework governing its experimental and clinical use.

Course contents

Stem cells in tissue engineering (TE).

TE scaffolds: chemical, physical and biological properties of natural and synthetic biomaterials; scaffold fabrication methods; bioactive substance delivery; cell/biomaterial interactions (biocompatibility e differentiation assessment).

TE bioreactor systems: cell culture in bioreactors for TE; examples/applications.
