Learning outcomes
At the end of this course the student has acquired up to date knowledge on basic principles useful to investigate the problems of microbiology applied to plant production :bacteria involved in the production of vegetal food fermented. The student will be able to understand the application of probiotic strains in plants as bio-fertilizer and the use of compost in agriculture.
Course contents
The Course is divided in 4 Didatic Units.
1.The phyllosphere microbiota.
Microbial ecology of phyllophere, association microrganisms-plants,relationships with the host.
2.Applications of microbiology in the plant production
Selection and use of symbiotic bacteria in agriculture,.Plant growing promoting bacteria :interaction with the plant and the soil.Microorganisms for biological control of pathogenic bacteria.Industrial production of fermented food.Vegetal functional food.
3 Compost and Silage.
Compost:role of microrganisms ,evolution and optimization of environmental conditions.
Silage:role of microorganisms in the silage maturation, problem of pathogenic moulds.
4 MGM
MGM applied to plant production :problems, future ,economic impact.
