1. Pain as public health problem; Epidemiology of pain
2. Definition and classification of pain and its
neurophysiopathology: peripheral and central mechanisms of
nociception: activation and sensitization of the nociceptors,
allodinia and hyperalgesia; modulation of pain; autonomic reflexes
generated by pain; the referred pain.
3. The management of the patient with pain:
a. The clinical examination of the patient with pain:
history taking, physical examination and techniques of evaluation
of pain (objective parameters and pain scales),
b. Presentation of the most frequent acute and chronic
painful syndromes: Neuropathic pain, Muscles and bones' pain ,
miofascial pain, Low Back Pain, Rheumatic disease, Cancer pain,
post-operative Pain.
4. Major technical and pharmacological tools for pain therapy
(administration routs, NSAIDs, Opioids, the elastomeric pump, PCA.
PCEA)

Teaching methods
Interactive frontal lessons with PC projection of the didactic
material and clinical case movies.
Particular attention will be given to the application of the
neurphysiopathology and clinical pharmacology notions in pain
therapy.
Assessment methods
Oral examination on the program topics as they have been developed during the lessons.
Teaching tools
The content of the lessons will be delivered to the students at the end of the course as pdf foles of the slides.
