Learning outcomes

At the end the student will know proliferation and differentiation mechanisms of stem cells and the genes that regulate the development of the germ layers. The student will understand  the biotechnological tools used for the study of the topics addressed and he will be able to recognize the elements of innovation and ethical issues in the field of regenerative medicine. The student will have acquired the necessary information to conduct his study course. 

Course contents

Definition of Stemness.
Embryonic Stem Cells (ESCs), toti potential and pluripotential differentiation.
Embryonic Stem cell research: ethical and legal issues.
Adult Stem Cells (hemopoietic, epithelial and mesenchymal stem cells).
Therapeutic potential of adult stem cells. Cell Therapy and future outlook.
