Conoscenze e abilità da conseguire

The course aims to provide students with a general knowledge of the main models of industrial relations, with a peculiar emphasis on the Italian one. At the end of the course students are able to: (a) understand the evolution and the present development of industrial relations in Italy and in other European Union countries; (b) understand the main issues related to collective bargaining and trade unions’ rights.

- The function and the functioning of collective bargaining

- The industrial actions

- The legal institutions of industrial relations in Europe

- European Works Council

- Digitalization and industrial relations: a matter of social dialogue?

- European Labour Authority and Social Dialogue

Metodi didattici

Lectures, experts seminars, group work

 

Lectures and class discussions. Students will be asked to participate in class debates and to choose one session in which they will be asked to lead the discussion. By choosing a session, the student agrees to help lead discussion by introducing the topics, giving account of the issues to be considered in the discussion.

The scheduling of class debates will be organized in the first class.

Modalità di verifica e valutazione dell'apprendimento

Written tests, based on a combination of multiple-choice and open questions.

Grading system (0-30 scale):

<18: fail.

18-19: fair.

20-23: more than enough.

24-26: good.

27-30: very good/excellent.

30 cum laude/with honor.

Solid command of legal English is considered a "plus".
