Conoscenze e abilità da conseguire

This course aims to provide the fundamental principles of organization design and behaviour. The student will learn how to properly apply the most important tools in the areas of organizational design and behaviour to improve firm performance. Business cases will be used to show how organizational tools and techniques can be adopted with efficacy in the context of the travel, tourism and hospitality industries.

  • Organizational Theories: scientific management, classical school of administration, human relations school, contingency theories, resource-dependence theory, institution theory, organizational ecology, decision making.
  • Organization Models: functional, multidivisional and matrix structures; hybrid models
  • Managing M&A, Strategic Alliances and Networks
  • Organization Behavior: historical foundations of OB theories
  • Managing individuals: ability versus aptitude; perceptions and attributions
  • Managing motivation: classical and contemporary theories and their limitations
  • Managing groups and teams: functions; models, structures and norms
  • Managing cultures: the impact of organizational culture at work; the functions of organizational culture
  • Managing leading and coaching: leaders vs managers; theories of leadership

Metodi didattici

There will be 9 contat hours per week with the key concepts, methods and techniques being introduced via lectures. In addition to formal lectures, we will use group discussion, cases, and video materials in order to combine conceptual and experiential approaches.
