Conoscenze e abilità da conseguire

This course mainly focuses on the evaluation and monitoring of ecosystem changes related to human impact and global change. Examples related to agro-ecosystems, forests, high elevation ecosystems and freshwaters will be analyzed. Particular emphasis will be assigned to: 1) the mechanisms that link taxonomical and functional diversity to ecosystem functioning; 2) the role of species functional traits in determining the response of communities to environmental factors in a global change scenario; 3) biodiversity-related ecosystem services and their relationships with global change; 4) the use of bioindicators and biomonitoring techniques for evaluating anthropogenic impacts and the effects of global change on terrestrial ecosystems, including freshwaters. The course also includes practical and laboratory activities and some pills of scientific writing to support students in critical reading activities and in preparing a short report.
