Contenuti

This Lab will address a significant case study in the story of the conservation of Cultural Heritage, with a specific focus on the analysis of a digital heritage "ecosystem", within the broader context of an emerging digital culture. Federico Zeri (1921-1998) was one of the most outstanding Italian art historians of the Twentieth century. His interests were mostly devoted to Italian art from the Middle Age to the Neoclassical period. He bequeath to Bologna University his art history library (which counts almost 80.000 volumes) and his photographic archive (more than 290.000 photographs of works of art). A large part of this archive has been digitalized, and is freely accessible via internet. The Lab will introduce the student to Zeri’s achievements in the field of art history, and will explain how the cataloguing work is conducted at the Federico Zeri Foundation. Students will take advantage of some practical researches linked to the history of art, the history and technique of the art historical reproduction photography, cataloguing and digitalizing new standards.
