Conoscenze e abilità da conseguire

Al termine del corso, lo studente possiede una solida conoscenza della storia dell’innovazione in ambito economico con particolare riferimento a svolte cruciali nella storia dell’umanità, guardando soprattutto agli ultimi tre secoli. Lo studente è in grado di discutere il ruolo degli attori che contribuiscono (o ostacolano) l’innovazione nelle società umane e di comprendere come la questione dell’innovazione si interseca con altri grandi fenomeni del mondo contemporaneo, quali la globalizzazione, lo sviluppo e l’ineguaglianza. Infine lo studente acquisisce familiarità con i maggiori approcci alla storia della tecnologia, dell’innovazione e della crescita.

Contenuti

Course contents

The course will analyze how technological change has affected the long-term evolution of human societies, in conjunction with institutional and economic developments. A long-term historical perspective will provide insight into some of the crucial issues of today’s world, such as environmental issues, war, and development.

Learning aims

By the end of the course, you will be able to discuss the fundamental role of technology in the history of human societies. You will also be able to examine critically the scholarship on the economic history of innovation.
