75563 - MAGMATISMO, METAMORFISMO E MICROSTRUTTURE (M3)

Anno Accademico 2017/2018

  • Docente: Roberto Braga
  • Crediti formativi: 4
  • SSD: GEO/07
  • Lingua di insegnamento: Inglese
  • Modalità didattica: Convenzionale - Lezioni in presenza
  • Campus: Bologna
  • Corso: Laurea Magistrale in Geologia e territorio (cod. 8027)

Contenuti

  1. Igneous and metamorphic processes - a refresher
  2. Defining the system of interest
  3. Learning how to use the software Perple_X
  4. The KFMASH system, analogue for continental crust evolution
  5. The role of fluids during subsolidus processes
  6. The CFMASH system for upper mantle rock
  7. Basalts generation and their composition variation as a function of Pressure and Temperature of source melting.
  • Field trip (two-days) on a crystalline basement

Testi/Bibliografia

  • Perple_X tutorial and documentation
  • Selected papers from Elements; students can download the papers when connected to the almawifi domain. Elements subscription is possible thanks to BiGeA's funding.

Metodi didattici

The class is mostly based on active and cooperative learning. Frontal lectures will mostly support the learning curve for Perple_X

Emphasis will be on thinking, inquiry, creativity on problem-solving. Team work is encouraged, including peer reviewing and critiquing.

Students will be asked to use their personal laptop.

Modalità di verifica e valutazione dell'apprendimento

  • A practical exam consisting of the calculationof equilibrium phase diagrams, from which the student will extract quantitative petrogenetic information (50% of the final grade)
  • Oral discussion on the results of the practical exam (50% of the final grade)

Strumenti a supporto della didattica

  • Projector for Power Point presentations
  • Rock and thin section collections
  • Polarizing Optical Microscope
  • Open Software for petrogenetic modelling
