Research Interests

The main research topic is about Explainability of Machine Learning models, namely finding simple ways of understanding the reasoning made by such models, understanding the drivers of a certain decision as well as the overall behaviour.

In order to do that, I believe it is essential to have firm grasp about both Machine Learning models and Statistical Techniques used for data analysis. Optimization techinques are another essential piece in order to understand how the algorithms work. It's naive to design algorithms to simplify and increase the understandability of Machine Learning models without deeply understanding their inner logic.

Driven by this perception, I'm studying the Math and Statistics exploited by Learning Algorithms, as a byproduct of the main research topic.

Education

  • Master Degree in Statistics 110/110L, University of Bologna with a thesis entitled “Selection of typical days for Combined Heat and Power (CHP) systems optimization, applied analysis in the Northern Italy district”, Advisor: Prof. Stefano Lodi
  • Bachelor Degree in Statistics 110/110L, University of Bologna with a thesis entitled “Matching statistico e sue applicazioni”, Advisor: Prof. Daniela Cocchi

Collaboration

My PhD program is funded by Crif Spa, with whom I collaborate in order to develop finer explanation methods.
