88395 - TECNICHE AVANZATE PER LO STUDIO DEL METABOLISMO IN VIVO

Academic Year 2018/2019

  • Docente: Stefano Iotti
  • Credits: 3
  • SSD: BIO/12
  • Language: Italian
  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures
  • Campus: Bologna
  • Corso: Second cycle degree programme (LM) in Pharmaceutical Biotechnology (cod. 8519)

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course, the student will have the basic knowledge:

- about some advanced non-invasive diagnostic techniques and the physical principles on which they are based;

- about the metabolic and biochemical information obtainable from the different types of non-invasive investigation.

In particular, the student will be able to use metabolic information to understand the mechanisms of in vivo regulation and to understand the procedures of investigation and analysis of the data obtained by in vivo metabolic study.

Course contents

Physical principles of nuclear magnetic resonace spectroscopy (NMR). NMR application in in-vivo biochemistry. Integration between holistic and reductionist approaches. In vivo 31P spectroscopy in human brain and skeletal muscle (31P MRS). In vivo 1H spectroscopy in human brain (1H MRS).

In vivo phosphorus nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (31P MRS). Basic principles of  bioenergetics metabolism. The study of bioenergetics in vivo in the human brain and skeletal muscle. Examples of diagnostic applications

Spettroscopia in vivo di risonanza magnetica del protone 1H MRS).

Meatabolic relevance of the signals detectable in vivo in the human brain. Examples of diagnostic applications
