Learning outcomes

This seminar will explore the challenges of international Courts, especially efficiency, resilience and inclusivity, with a focus on governance and criminal procedure. We will also question the ideas of extending the scope of international crimes, of creating new forms of criminal liability, and using new investigative tools.

Course contents

This seminar will explore the challenges of international Courts, especially efficiency, resilience and inclusivity, with a focus on governance and criminal procedure. We will also question the ideas of extending the scope of international crimes, of creating new forms of criminal liability, and using new investigative tools. The role of civil society as a partner to international courts will also be questioned, as it is more and more involved in investigations and victims participation.

The compulsory syllabus and the reading list for both attending and non-attending students will be published on the Alma DL website.

Texts and materials of the cases discussed during the course will be also uploaded on the AlmaDL website, along with potential additional readings that will be identified during classes.

Teaching methods

 

Students will be involved in an interactive and open discussion. They will be provided with readings to prepare for this, which will be given in advance.

Assessment methods

 

 

An evaluation will be made at the end of the seminar based on participation and comments during the discussions.
