Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the students gain an understanding of: - the most frequent causes of FRAILITY in people living in community; - the main profiles of physical or cognitive disability; - the interactions between physical activity and functioning in frailty or impaired people.

Course contents

The course will comprehend four main learning modules, for a total of 24 teaching hours, giving 4 CFU:

 

Module A - Disability I

  • A1 History of disability
  • A2 Models of disability: older conceptualizations
  • A3 Epidemiology of disability

 

Module B - Disability II

  • B1 The current disability model: the Biopsychosocial model
  • B2 Classification of disability: the ICF classification
  • B3 Assessment of disability
  • B4 Lessen the impact of disability

 

Module C - Frailty

  • C1 The frailty syndrome
  • C2 Falls and their prevention

Module D - Physical activity in frailty and disability

  • D1 Health effects of physical activity
  • D2 Physical activity in frailty and disability
  • D3 Sport in frailty and disability

Reading materials and pdfs of the slides will be made available on the Virtuale platform

Teaching methods

- In presence / on-line lectures

- Homework on case studies.

Assessment methods

After the end of each module, an MCQ test will be performed on EOL. Thus, a total of 4 MCQ tests will be performed during the course and the marks obtained will concur to the final vote, along with a final MCQ test and the viva examination.

Thus, students attending the course are expected and strongly encouraged to keep their studying up to date with the course content.

During the introductory lecture detailed instructions on the MCQ test will be provided along with a simulation of the test.
