Learning outcomes

The course provides a connection between the theory and recent experimental results, including recent discoveries. The learning outcomes of the course consist of a deeper understanding of the relevant physical processes that led to recent discoveries.

Course contents

Place of teaching: Technische Universität Dortmund, Dortmund

  • Discussion of results and discoveries in the field of particle physics that have been proven wrong. Connection to current research and modern methods of research.

  • Modern tools used in particle physics, e.g. machine learning, or in-depth studies of recent discoveries and measurements using modern methods.

Readings/Bibliography

Scientific literature and specific publications are distributed during the class.

Teaching methods

Seminar (50%) and directed discussion (50%)

Assessment methods

Coursework: Active participation in the two seminars

Examination: A presentation in at least one of the seminars

Teaching tools

The student presentations in the seminar will be based on Latex, Powerpoint or similar software.
