95894 - Law, Information and Digital Transformation (LM)

Learning outcomes

The course is aimed at giving the students the basic legal framework of Private Law, also under a comparative approach, related to the information society in view of an efficient job placement also at an international level. Special focus will be addressed to national media law in the domestic context and to the protection of personal rights vis a vis digital transformation, big data, AI and the intersection between ethic and technology. At the end of the course students: • will manage the fundamental private law tools needed in the professional context, under a EU and global perspective and through an interdisciplinary approach; • will acknowledge the main private law tools and issues related to communication and media; • will be able to deal with the fundamental information laws and to solve the main issues concerning the protection of individuals in the information society; • will be able to prove their knowledge in a working context and to manage the challenges posed by the interaction of personal rights and technology in a global arena.

The course program is organized as follows:

- Private law and the information society

- Privacy between the individual and the community: Europe

- Data protection, circulation of information and fundamental rights, GDPR

- The new challenges of digital transformation; the fourth revolution

- Digital platforms and DSA

- European regulation, ethics and the centrality of man: the challenges of artificial intelligence

Teaching methods

The course will combine frontal lessons and the analysis of practical cases. A Socratic method will be adopted and discussion in class will be stimulated.

Assessment methods

ATTENDING STUDENTS: grades will be based half on team presentation of a case in class and half on a final exam, which will be a written 5 questions MC test, to complete in 20 mm. Topics covered are just the above listed books' contents.

NON-ATTENDING STUDENTS: grades will be based on the final examination only, which will be a written 10 questions MC test, to complete in 40 mm. Topics covered are just the above listed books' contents.

Only the students with authorization can do the exams via Teams.

Students needing compensatory tools due to disabilities or learning disabilities (SLD) should inform the Professor about their necessities. Therefore, they will be addressed to their referent to arrange the adoption of the proper devices.
