Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student has a basic linguistic and communicative competence (level TEU - A1 of the TORFL). Particular focus is dedicated to the skill of speaking on the main topics of everyday life and on issues related to areas of the Faculty.The students are able to: - understand and use basic expressions to meet practical elementary needs in shops, post offices, banks, restaurants, public transportation, at the doctor's, at a lesson, etc. .., - introduce themselves and others - ask and answerquestions about personal details such as the place where they live in, work or study - provide information about relatives or friends and objects that possess - to formulate expressions of greetings, thanks, apologies - to express the additional time elements.

Course contents

Stressed vowels and reduction of unstressed vowels.
Voiced and voiceless consonants, hard and soft consonants. Fundamental principles of Russian orthography.

Morphology: Gender and number of the nouns, the adjectives and the pronouns. Adverbs of manner and time.

Characteristics of the nominative case.

Characteristics of the accusative case with and without preposition.

Characteristics of the prepositive case with and without preposition.

General notions on numerals.

Syntax: simple statements, interrogative and negative sentences.

Verb: I and II conjugation (regular and irregular verbs).Use and conjugation of the verbs khotet' (to want), ljubit' (to love), moch' (can, to be able), of the word dolzhen (must) with the infinitive and of some other irregular verbs. Present tense. Past tense. Future tense (imperfective).

Teaching methods

The course is organized with a part of lectures taught online on MS TEAMS (16 hours) and another taught in presence (14 hours). The number of students allowed in class is determined on the basis of class capacity and by the health and safety provisions that deal with the pandemic emergency. In case more students want to attend classes in presence than permitted by the rules, a system of shifts will be organized so to allow students to participate. Regardless of the health-related conditions and the specific organization of the course, students will be able to follow the lessons of the entire course remotely on MS TEAMS.

The course is articulated in 30 hours of lessons, in which the linguistic competences are mainly developed, and in 40 hours of laboratory activities, that privilege the communicative competences. 30 hours of self-learning with multimedia material are recommended.

Assessment methods

The students are asked to take a written examination and an oral test.

The written test is to verify the linguistic competences, in particular elements of morphology and word-study, including the ability of written comprehension on political topics.

The oral test is focused on the communicative competences on the topics mentioned above. In particular, students should: introduce themselves, speak about their family, their study or profession, their hobbies, and the city they live in.
