94239 - Physical Chemistry for Cosmetic Science.

Academic Year 2021/2022

  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures
  • Campus: Rimini
  • Corso: Second cycle degree programme (LM) in Advanced Cosmetic Sciences (cod. 9225)

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course, the student has acquired the fundamental concepts dealing with the following topics: • Thermodynamics and kinetics of physical chemical, biochemical and cosmetic systems, together with experimental techniques for the study of such systems; • Fundamental aspects of quantum mechanics of simple molecular systems for the interpretation of relationships between molecular structure and macroscopic properties of such systems. • The student is also able to understand the energetic and kinetic aspects of the mechanisms of chemical reactions and in particular those of cosmetic interest, to analyze the experimental results and hypothesize the mechanisms for the chemical physical systems.

Course contents

  • Structure of macromolecule.

  • Structure of bilayers as membrane models and membranes; permeability of membrane by the use of scanning probe microscopy techniques.

  • Introduction to the principles of the Scanning Electrochemical Microscopy (SECM) to study the reactive oxygen species (ROS) and the membrane.

  • Light and materials with elements of quantum chemistry: particular focus to the chemiluminescence and the elettrochemiluminescence for the development of sensors and biosensors.
