Learning outcomes

At the conclusion of the course the students will have perfected the historical and critical knowledge needed for understanding the relationship between art and fashion, with specific reference to the dominating style trends in the period straddling the millennium. They will also acquire the methodological tools necessary to analyse and interpret the languages and aesthetic codes peculiar to the two fields in order to explore the forms of dialogue, convergences and contaminations between them.

Teaching methods

Frontal lectures, but also flipped teaching aimed at activating high cognitive skills: understanding, applying, evaluating, creating.


Group work, class discussions and presentations will be an integral part of the learning process.

Assessment methods

The attending student’s performance will be graded in thirtieths based on:

  • 7/30 – Preparedness and active participation in class discussion;
  • 8/30 – Final presentation of the group project scheduled for the last day of classes - May, 21st 2024;
  • 7/30 – Submission of a concise conceptual framework (8500-10000 character, spaces included) of the case study that the student intends to prepare for the final exam. The Word .docx document should contain indications on the key concepts and insight into the critical analysis of the case study. It should be sent to the professor via mail at least ten days prior to the exam date;
  • 8/30 – Oral discussion with individual Case study presentation. The discussion will be centered on the case study chosen by the student. Competences in critical analysis and opinionating capacity, as well as proficiency in concepts, topics and arguments elaborated in the mandatory bibliography will be evaluated during the oral exam.

The non attending student’s performance will be graded in thirtieths based on:

  • 17/30 – Submission of written essay (18000-20000 character, spaces included) centered on the case study that the student intends to prepare for the final exam. The Word .docx document should demonstrate student's competences in critical analysis and opinionating capacity relative to the chosen case study and in reference to the mandatory bibliography. It should be sent to the professor via mail at least two weeks prior to the exam date;
  • 13/30 – Oral discussion with individual Case study presentation. The discussion will be centered on the case study chosen by the student with attention to the elaborated critical concepts.

 

Cum Laude will be assigned based on the commitment throughout the entire academic year. The works that will be assessed as excellent are those of the students who demonstrate distinctive and well-argued thoughts and a particular capacity to create cohesion between their creative capacity and theoretical-critical knowledge.
