Learning outcomes

At the end of the seminar, the student improves the knowledge of the Italian grammar. The student obtains the necessary linguistic abilities to understand and to analyze complex texts, as literary texts and related to the specialistic bibliographies about disciplinary area of the courses. The student is able to create texts in order to expose complex contents

Course contents

Seminar is defined by the following learning activities:

- development of both oral and wiritten communicative skills through the language practice and the study of the Italian grammar structures and the idiomatic expressions.

- introduction to the reading and the analysis of literary texts and the criticism related to the exam's programs of first year.

- analysis of books, films, theatrical pieces and art exhibitions.

- development of critical understanding of Italian culture through literature and arts.

- composition of academic and professional text, such as curriculum vitae, self-presentation, letter of reference, institutional e-mail, presentation of cultural projects.

Instructor will provide handouts with supplementary readings.

Teaching methods

Reading and anaylis of a different range of texts.

Class discussion on pre-agreed topics concerning the Italian culture. Students will receive weekly assignments and will be expected to actively participate in the class discussion.

Students are encouraged to participate to the project "Pensierini", writing short texts for its blog (https://pensierini.blog).

Students are strongly encouraged to visit exhibitions and museums in Bologna and attend theatrical and lyric plays.

 

Assessment methods

Students are expected to actively participate in the class discussion.

Written tests concerning the grammar previously learned are scheduled.

A final exam, both oral and written, is required. Concerning the oral part, students will be assigned a project related to a topics studied in the course and they will be asked to present it, either in pair or in small groups, in class. Concerning the written part of the exam, students are asked to write a short composition. The topic of both oral presentation or written composition are pre-agreed with the instructor.
