Academic Year 2023/2024

  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures
  • Campus: Forli
  • Corso: Second cycle degree programme (LM) in International Relations and Diplomatic Affairs (cod. 9247)

Learning outcomes

The Course provides theoretical, analytical and conceptual tools to understand, interpret and explain the connections between political and economic processes in international politics. In particular, it aims to helping students achieve: 1). a good knowledge of mainstream approaches; 2). a wide knowledge of its fields of enquiry (trade, investments, monetary policy, finance, multinational corporations, development approaches; and 3). a good capacity to understand the complexities faced by policy-makers when making decisions in the cotemporary global economic scenario

Course contents

The course introduces students to the political analysis of the international economic system, its historical evolution and contemporary challenges such as those associated with climate change and the use of artificial intelligence.

The first part of the course introduces the main theoretical approaches, themes and transversal questions that characterize the discipline of International Political Economy. The second part of the course deals with specific themes, linked to the current economic challenges that the international system faces. The course is organised into two sections: first, a section of frontal lessons (16 hours) and, second, a seminar section (12 hours). Each section is specifically indicated in the following programme. For the seminar section, students are divided into two groups and attend one of the two meetings scheduled for each session. Students are required to read the assigned material (present on Virtuale) before the seminar meetings. Active participation in the classroom is required.
