Learning outcomes

The goal of the course is the analysis of cultural expression and collective imaginary through memory and the written word, iconographic and film records of the Twentieth century generations.

Course contents

Fashion and Cultural Heritage: social imaginaries and collective practices.

Particularly, will be examined the following  subjects:

International Archives, Museums, Maisons de la Mode, Galleries of Costume, Foundations and Cultural Projects of Fashion and Costume.

Teaching methods

Frontal lessons, seminars and visits to fashion institutions. During the course students will carry on a research on a fashion institution (museum, archive, maison etc..), in order to learn the methodology of preservation and management of fashion cultural heritage.

During the course a visit to a Fashion Museum and  an Archive is expected.

Assessment methods

Attending students: report and presentation of the research during classes will be valid as  oral exam.

Non-attending students: oral exam on recommended readings.

Mandatory for all students: a research paper (3000 words) about a fashion institution. The work must be submitted to the teacher within 15 days before the oral exam.
