Learning outcomes
At the end of the course the student is able to acquire theoretical knowledge on topics related to the issues of the environment, prevention, legislation and safety of current interest for his profession in preparation for the integrated courses of the following years.

- Theoretical concepts relating to fire:
- Definition of combustion
- Definition of fuel
- Definition of explosion
- Concept of prevention
- "Principles of combustion" "Triangle of fire" and related concepts (fuels, oxidizing agents, primers, ignition energy)
- "Flammable" and "explosive" "combustible" substances
- Classification of fires and related extinguishing agents
- Graph of the evolution of a fire and salient features
- Effects of fires on humans and the environment
- Possible “direct and indirect ignition sources"
- Flammability and explosive limits, concept of effective ignition
- Notes referring to places with potentially explosive atmospheres (ATEX)
- General concept of protection
- Concept of "active protection" and "passive protection"
- Escape routes and routes
- Lighting in emergency conditions
- Fire reaction classes
- Fire-fighting compartments, characteristic bearing and separating structures
- Fire detection and extinguishing systems
- Management of fire prevention procedures and emergency plans
- Special environments (confined spaces, ATEX, work in solitude, at night, etc.)
