Learning outcomes

Learning Outcomes: Al the end of the seminars the student is able to identify and evaluate the main topics of current research in the tourism field, and to deepen the analysis through brief essays.

Course contents

In the Academic Year 2018-19, seminars are organized in the first semester. 

The seminar series is entitled "Topics in contemporary tourism: markets, institutions, technology and the environment", and will be a mix of conferences and workshops, short courses on specific topics and presentations by tourism experts and professionals.

1. Malek Jamaliah (University of Jordan): "Climate change and tourism" (6 hours)

2. Johanna Bernadette Flemming (Consultant): "Human resource management in the cruise industry" (6 hours)

3. Jussi Mertanen (Haaga Helia University): "Digital Marketing in Tourism" (6 hours)

4. Marco Guerzoni (University of Turin):

"Digital markets and tourism I: (big) data collection and consumer value" (2 hours)

"Digital markets and tourism II: platforms and tourism economics: two market power cases" (2 hours)

5. Stefano Parmeggiani (Consultant): "Leveraging the environmental value of touristic destinations" (2 hours)

6. Jose Mateos Royo (University of Zaragoza): "Tourism in Spain: economic and social perspectives" (6 hours)

7. Giorgio Ribaudo (Horwath HTL) & Jerome Lassara (Accor): "Hotel chains: trends and the required skills and the Accor case"

Assessment methods

Students should attend AT LEAST 15 hours out of the list of seminars offered in 2018-19. Attendance will be checked through identification and signature. To attain the 3 ECTS students should write a short essay, i.e. 4-5 pages, on one (or more) of the topics covered in the seminars. Evaluation, performed by the seminar coordinator, will be on a pass/fail basis.
