  • Docente: Fabiana Zama
  • Credits: 6
  • SSD: MAT/08
  • Language: Italian
  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures
  • Campus: Bologna
  • Corso: Second cycle degree programme (LM) in Mathematics (cod. 8208)

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course, the student: - has an in-depth knowledge of the numerical aspects of mathematics for applications; - can use efficiently modern scientific calculation tools; - can produce simulations of events using mathematical models of applied sciences.

Course contents

The course purpose is to provide skills on the numerical solution of differential initial value problems and boundary value problems.
The theoretical aspects of the most commonly used methods will be deepened, and the implementation details of the algorithms for the solution of problems of significant applicative interest will be analyzed.

Teaching methods

Lectures and laboratory exercise. MATLAB will be used for examples, exercises, and projects in the laboratory.

Assessment methods

The exam consists of two parts:

- the correction of an essay summarizing a small project of your choice

- a final oral examination on individual appointment after registration for an appeal.

The final oral exam will begin with a brief discussion of the project. You can not repeat the exam with the same project.

Teaching tools

The IoL platform will be used for teaching materials and project assignments.
The course includes a laboratory activity that is an integral part in which we will be using the software MATLAB.
